1. Plumpton Athletic Juniors FC (“PAJFC” or the “club”) is committed to high standards of health and safety and encourages all persons associated with the club, including players, coaches, parents/carers and players/supporters of visiting teams, to contribute to a safe environment.
2. The club’s management committee is accountable for the implementation of this policy and ensuring that, as far as is reasonably practicable, a safe playing/training environment exists and activities are conducted in a manner that minimises risks to health and safety.
3. All members and visitors have an obligation to take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and other persons who may be affected by their actions, to cooperate with the club to enable this policy to be complied with and to report any concerns to the management committee.
4. The key principles of this policy are:
• Facilities & Equipment – Each venue arranged by PAJFC for training or matches must provide a safe and secure environment for players, parents/carers and coaches including vehicle/pedestrian access and use of pavilions and other facilities. Playing/training areas, including those at away venues, must be assessed for risks to health and safety and any significant risks adequately addressed before activities commence. All playing/training equipment must be maintained and used safely including adherence to the FA goalpost safety guidelines.
• Coaching Qualifications & Activities – All PAJFC coaches must have completed a DBS (criminal record) check and the FA Safeguarding Children Workshop; additionally, an FA Level 1 Introduction to First Aid-qualified coach must always be present with each group of players.
• Coaching activities must be carried out in a safe and responsible manner including:
- Adherence to OFSTED guidance on adult to child ratios and arrangements for child drop-off and collection which are appropriate for the age group concerned;
- Coaches must check that players are fit to play, appropriately dressed for weather conditions, wear shinpads and appropriate footware, and have any medicines to hand;
- An up-to-date parent/carer contact list must be easily to hand with at least one mobile phone available for use when necessary; and
- Playing/training activities must be appropriate for the age group concerned.
• First Aid Arrangements – Adequate first aid arrangements must be in place for each group of players including:
- A fully-stocked, in-date first aid kit and Pocket Concussion Recognition Tool;
- PAJFC Emergency Action Plan showing full addresses of PAJFC venues and locations of nearest defibrillator(s) and A&E hospital; and
- For away venues, the full address and any necessary directions required for the venue and the locations of the nearest defibrillator(s) and A&E hospital.
Any injury requiring first aid treatment or emergency services must be treated in accordance with FA training and alerted to the child’s parent/carer as soon as practicable and thereafter also to the Health & Safety member of the club’s management committee.
5. The club’s management committee will ensure that adequate procedures and guidance are in place to ensure the principles above are applied effectively and will regularly review and appraise health and safety issues and developments at its meetings.
